00:00:00.100 --> 00:00:03.346
Vegan is like 100% plants only.

00:00:03.346 --> 00:00:07.814
There's no animal byproducts, there's no animal meat for sure.

00:00:07.814 --> 00:00:16.280
So, like dairy would be completely cut out of that, it also cuts out cheese because that's just a byproduct, in my opinion, of dairy.

00:00:22.763 --> 00:00:56.896
Just keep telling, just keep telling hey guys, it's me again.

00:00:56.896 --> 00:00:59.677
Thank you for logging in, thank you for listening.

00:00:59.677 --> 00:01:08.132
I do have Miss Linda here and she is going to tell us about her company and what inspired her.

00:01:08.132 --> 00:01:09.766
Thank you for coming on, miss Linda.

00:01:09.766 --> 00:01:13.090
Thank you for having me, kim, my pleasure, my pleasure.

00:01:13.090 --> 00:01:14.855
So tell us a little bit about you.

00:01:15.197 --> 00:01:21.453
Okay, my name is Linda Montgomery and I'm actually a culinary nutritionist.

00:01:21.453 --> 00:01:24.990
There's a slight difference between nutritionist and culinary nutritionist.

00:01:24.990 --> 00:01:36.450
Most nutritionists are known in dietetics very clinically inclined, but for culinary nutrition, my focus is on food and its correlation to our health.

00:01:36.450 --> 00:01:54.442
Really, yes, I'm a Texas Women's University graduate and my degree program was in nutrition for business and industry and it taught me a lot about, like food manufacturing, how our food is made, where it comes from, um really, and wow.

00:01:54.442 --> 00:02:13.283
So I started to look at nutrition because not only do I just have a passion for um, teaching others, or at least you know, spreading the word, that food can be delicious and look and smell like Mickey D's but then actually be much healthier and cleaner for us than what Mickey D's is it's poison, by the way, can.

00:02:13.324 --> 00:02:32.201
I say that on here I say it all the time, every time my friend be like I'm taking my child to Mickey D's, I was like you know, I feel poison, have a good time, but please don't cancel them, but please don't cancel them.

00:02:32.201 --> 00:02:42.969
So, but, um, yeah, so that's why I uh launched into, launched into this nutrition career and I finally walked out on faith and decided to move, move forward with my nutrition career and Tillgarden Nutrition was born, and it's your local history for it.

00:02:43.030 --> 00:02:49.842
wow, yes, ma'am okay, so is that what is what inspired you to even get into nutrition?

00:02:49.842 --> 00:02:51.126
Honestly?

00:02:51.406 --> 00:03:03.753
I've had this trend in my life where I would at times go on like fast, um, that's for budgeting reasons, and then, um, I also would try different like diets.

00:03:03.753 --> 00:03:04.556
I've heard of different kind of diets.

00:03:04.556 --> 00:03:05.194
I've even tried the lemonade diets.

00:03:05.194 --> 00:03:05.396
I've heard of different kinds of diets.

00:03:05.396 --> 00:03:07.164
I've even tried the lemonade diet twice.

00:03:07.420 --> 00:03:08.639
I've never, even heard of the lemonade diet.

00:03:08.639 --> 00:03:16.454
It's just lemonade with, like maple syrup, water, lemon I'm sorry, fresh lemons, maple syrup and water.

00:03:16.454 --> 00:03:24.747
And yeah, because I went to go skydiving with my ex-girlfriend and so I was like just over the mark and they were like, sis, you got to do something.

00:03:24.747 --> 00:03:25.841
I looked at her, she looked at me.

00:03:25.841 --> 00:03:29.143
I said I guess I'm juicing it.

00:03:29.143 --> 00:03:34.626
I was kind of you know, I mean, was it really beneficial for my health?

00:03:34.626 --> 00:03:36.146
Was it a long term thing?

00:03:36.146 --> 00:03:38.729
No, because we went out to eat a steak that night.

00:03:38.848 --> 00:03:59.353
This is before I went vegan by the way yeah, um, I went on that steak that night and I mean I was right back where I was, yeah, but that's been my inspiration, um is really to uh, just spread the word on culinary nutrition itself, also on the plant-based diet, on plant-based nutrition.

00:03:59.353 --> 00:04:00.717
I'm 100 plant-based.

00:04:00.717 --> 00:04:01.902
That is what till garden is.

00:04:01.902 --> 00:04:03.711
Um food is food.

00:04:03.711 --> 00:04:08.997
As far as I'm concerned, if we're hungry, we're going to eat, yeah, but at the end of the day, it's like what are we really eating?

00:04:08.997 --> 00:04:27.291
And I wanted, I wanted it all to be focused around plants and how our food and herbs, spices, seasonings, um vegetables, fruits, like it's more than meets the eye and we don't have to rely on only eating um animal products just to reach a perception of health.

00:04:27.291 --> 00:04:29.607
And so when I was like, wait, what?

00:04:29.607 --> 00:04:30.350
What did I hear?

00:04:30.350 --> 00:04:36.588
Because I mean, there's many studies that say that I feel like I'm going on a tangent.

00:04:38.600 --> 00:04:40.747
You're actually helping someone like me.

00:04:40.747 --> 00:04:46.805
That was 400 pounds and God blessed me to get on a weight loss journey and I'm sticking to it.

00:04:46.805 --> 00:05:00.608
And I had to change a whole lot and I don't eat at McDonald's at all, so I don't have time for fake food to make me feel like I'm full and I'm not that's a fact.

00:05:01.639 --> 00:05:10.699
People are like, oh, I'm full after eating until garden nutrition food and they feel so good, they feel light, they don't feel that heavy drag and I'm like there's a difference.

00:05:10.699 --> 00:05:12.095
It's a difference.

00:05:12.095 --> 00:05:13.860
That's what I love.

00:05:13.860 --> 00:05:25.365
I've always loved when I got a positive feedback on a meal, even a bad one, because there's been a time my mama could tell you I tried to bake a molasses something cake and my daddy, they looked at the pan, they were scared.

00:05:25.365 --> 00:05:28.305
They was like, baby, you going to try this?

00:05:28.305 --> 00:05:29.620
My daddy tried to put a knife through it.

00:05:29.620 --> 00:05:30.302
The knife stuck in.

00:05:30.302 --> 00:05:32.720
I think they threw the whole pan and the knife away.

00:05:32.759 --> 00:05:33.300
Let me tell you.

00:05:33.300 --> 00:05:36.447
Let me tell you, at least you tried, I tried, at least you tried.

00:05:36.447 --> 00:05:49.408
So I have some times where you know I've messed up on a meal or something or tested some recipe and it just doesn't work out.

00:05:49.408 --> 00:06:02.329
But I guess I can say I've gotten my skills to this adept level and so I'm able to make meals using plants, using herbs and spices and seasonings that not only taste good, it also makes you feel good.

00:06:02.329 --> 00:06:09.588
And I've got that feedback from family, friends and strangers and all of them saying the same thing.

00:06:09.588 --> 00:06:10.348
That's awesome.

00:06:11.814 --> 00:06:15.906
So if they can't come out and see you today, where can they reach you?

00:06:15.906 --> 00:06:19.125
How are you touchable for us to get this good food?

00:06:19.125 --> 00:06:19.877
Okay?

00:06:20.497 --> 00:06:22.382
well, I do weekly meal prep services.

00:06:22.382 --> 00:06:34.577
I launch a menu out every tuesday on my website at till garden incom and then you can pre-order by friday and I'll have it delivered to you on that sunday or you can pick it up either either option.

00:06:34.577 --> 00:06:46.331
I do these pop-ups to really put my brand out there, really get it, make Shreveport more aware, not only about my business and what I do, but also like what is vegan, what is plant-based?

00:06:46.331 --> 00:06:54.245
I've received that question quite a lot in just today's market, but this is actually my third market so I'm a little fresh at this.

00:06:55.396 --> 00:06:57.694
You're doing awesome, though You're doing awesome, though You're doing awesome.

00:06:57.694 --> 00:07:05.108
And honestly, before I decided to lose weight, I didn't know the difference between vegan and vegetarian.

00:07:05.108 --> 00:07:05.848
I just didn't know.

00:07:05.848 --> 00:07:08.600
So you want to tell us the difference?

00:07:09.723 --> 00:07:15.742
Yes, tangent number two Okay, I love it, and you look fabulous, by the way.

00:07:15.742 --> 00:07:17.862
Whatever worked for you, that worked for you.

00:07:17.862 --> 00:07:24.129
And I'm going to let that lead into my description, or at least my own explanation, for vegan and vegetarian.

00:07:24.129 --> 00:07:39.319
Because no matter what a diet is titled, no matter what it is named, at the end of the day, a diet is the way that you eat, and the way that you eat is going to be fit to your lifestyle, your preferences, how you want to eat it, to your lifestyle, your preferences, how you want to eat it.

00:07:39.319 --> 00:07:46.838
So, when one person can be a vegetarian and maybe they're okay with um, eating, you know, eggs, dairy um, they're okay with eating plant, um, I'm sorry, not plant-based products.

00:07:46.838 --> 00:07:50.026
They're okay with eating, um, animal byproducts.

00:07:50.026 --> 00:07:56.279
That's like chicken broth, beef broth, um, that's also like butter, like the real butter, like made from whole milk.

00:07:56.279 --> 00:08:02.264
I'll say, and then, but they won't eat, like the actual meats they might not eat.

00:08:02.264 --> 00:08:02.543
That.

00:08:02.543 --> 00:08:03.345
There's that.

00:08:03.345 --> 00:08:05.766
There's also the pescatarians.

00:08:05.766 --> 00:08:10.250
I'm just going to throw them in there too, because the pescatarian, in my opinion, is just a vegetarian that eats fish.

00:08:10.250 --> 00:08:11.250
Right, me too.

00:08:11.250 --> 00:08:12.552
That's exactly what I think.

00:08:12.552 --> 00:08:19.156
Yeah, and so you know.

00:08:19.156 --> 00:08:20.980
But now, vegan is like 100% plants only.

00:08:20.980 --> 00:08:23.346
There's no animal byproducts, there's no animal meat for sure.

00:08:23.346 --> 00:08:27.125
So, like, dairy would be completely cut out of that.

00:08:27.125 --> 00:08:31.747
It also cuts out cheese because that's just a byproduct, in my opinion, of dairy.

00:08:31.747 --> 00:08:50.390
But as far as animal products, animal meats, even fish sauces, like, if you go to Asian restaurants you might not recognize it, but they might have a fish sauce that has anchovies in it, like that would no longer be a plant-based menu item I would be able to order because it has that fish sauce in it.

00:08:50.390 --> 00:08:52.774
So something as simple as that no one pays attention to.

00:08:52.774 --> 00:08:54.061
Oh, let me catch you with this one.

00:08:54.174 --> 00:09:02.979
Gelatin is also something that's in a lot of our foods Candies, gummies and all these things.

00:09:02.979 --> 00:09:06.475
Gelatinous has gelatin in it and in some cases, if I'm not careful, I look at a cereal box it's going to have gelatin in it because of the marshmallow.

00:09:06.475 --> 00:09:08.600
So that does cut out Rice Krispie treats.

00:09:08.600 --> 00:09:18.044
But your girl got Rice Krispies on her dessert menu the plant-based version, but anyway.

00:09:18.044 --> 00:09:27.158
So, um, the vegan would not be able to consume that product because it has gelatin in it, but the vegetarian may still consume that and um it.

00:09:27.457 --> 00:09:35.437
It is a drastic difference, because I'm 100 plant-based vegan and if I oh my bad, I touched the mic.

00:09:35.437 --> 00:09:45.340
Okay, if I accidentally consume a jell-O shot, right yeah, and the Jell-O is made with gelatin, I could have a health effect.

00:09:45.340 --> 00:09:49.268
I would get like a headache or my stomach would be aching and things like that until it passes.

00:09:49.268 --> 00:09:57.145
And usually when I find myself like, did I just eat something laced with something, I would cleanse myself because I don't want that to pollute my body.

00:09:57.145 --> 00:10:01.206
And so there is a big difference between vegan and vegetarian.

00:10:01.206 --> 00:10:08.769
I have to be careful, because I have gone to, like some like ethnic restaurants, like a Caribbean restaurant restaurant, and they just called everything vegetarian.

00:10:08.769 --> 00:10:09.892
But it was vegan.

00:10:09.892 --> 00:10:11.033
It was from veggie chunk.

00:10:11.033 --> 00:10:13.381
They gave it that, that Caribbean flavor.

00:10:13.381 --> 00:10:15.850
I said, oh, this is delicious.

00:10:15.850 --> 00:10:17.254
You sure this is vegan?

00:10:17.254 --> 00:10:18.378
I don't want to die today.

00:10:18.378 --> 00:10:24.457
And lo and behold, it sure was, but they just call it vegetarian.

00:10:24.457 --> 00:10:26.243
So there is a difference.

00:10:26.243 --> 00:10:32.200
But there's also that misconception is the word I want to say, but it can't be confusing, it can be?

00:10:32.259 --> 00:10:33.182
yes, it can be well.

00:10:33.182 --> 00:10:40.908
Thank you so much for coming on the show and especially educating us on the difference between vegan and vegetarian and what to be careful for.

00:10:40.908 --> 00:10:43.567
So thank you so much for coming on the show.
